We in the "West" have very little idea of the diversity of her roles, Puccini, Verdi, Mozart - her Cherubino was supposedly "da bomb" - and pix of her in the role looks like she had a blast! I got to see Vishnevskaya a number of times - but only after she'd retired from opera. Even on a bare stage she was something to watch AND listen to! Ciao for now!

p.Sharkyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06354556120599729324noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-644158760598157015.post-59081378503301588002009-05-30T02:04:14.913-04:002009-05-30T02:04:14.913-04:00Hiya P,

I'd have loved to witness Vishnevskaya in her prime live just once (her and Callas, Varnay, Moedl, Rysanek, Hotter, and Vicker... I miss a lot of great ones! Young age can be such a downer sometimes).

Thanks for another great read. I haven't got her Tosca, but the Eugene Onegin CD is close at hand. The weekend is off to a good start! ;o)

Cheerio,
SmorgSmorghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01604438508775705758noreply@blogger.com
